Abstract

Model-Based Design is an efficient and cost-effective way to develop embedded systems. TASTE is a design environment promoted by the European Space Agency that supports the speification of systems described in various modeling languages, and the automated code generation and deployment. In this paper, we report on the usage of TASTE for development of a Battery Control System (BCS) and a Battery Management System (BMS) for a green energy solution composed by multiple flow batteries. Custom extensions to TASTE allowed to: a) automatically bind the TASTE AADL/SDL control system model to a plant model developed with OpenModelica and exported via the FMI protocol and b) automatically generate the drivers for the deployment fieldbus. The extensions, together with standard advantages of model-based design, were crucial to reduce the testing time, increased the confidence in the testing coverage, and ultimately led to the implementation of an optimized control system.
